Is your BMR the amount of calories you would burn if you did nothing at all, for eg if you lay in bed all day not lifting a finger?
mine came back as just over 1400 and it seems quite low.

Yes. Your BMR is your basal metabolic rate, the energy your body requires to eg beat your heart breathe etc.

Mrswhiskers. Yes it's the cals you'd burn if you lay in a coma for 24 hours and didn't move.

Mine is around 1400 and I'm 5'11" but I'm over 40 so every year it goes down. Depressing Grin

Bear in mind that even by being up and about and awake you burn way more than BMR. How much depends on what your daily activity is like.

For me even a very seditary day would see be burn 1730 cals against a BMR of 1480. So you don't have to move much to burn more.

Thanks. It doesn't seem so bad now Grin I'm reasonably active so will burn a bit more than that. I had expected it to be higher so got a fright. not looking forward to it going down as I age mind you....
