Losing weight after baby

I know there is probably a lot of info already on here but with a 5 month old I dont have much time to have a look....

I had my first baby over 5 months ago and I put on about 3 stone. I have lost almost a stone of that but still have at least 2 stone to lose so that i can fit back into real clothes again.
I am still in maternity jeans (i only have 2 pairs of trousers i can wear) and i cant afford to buy bigger clothes (mat pay and dh is going to be out of work soon so need to save)
Anyway I have sucked at losing weight and it is now making me feel rubbish. I am tired, my little one is having sleeping issues at night so i find that food is my comfort. I blame myself for my fatness, but am annoyed at my mw too as one of them told me that i wasnt eating enough and so my baby was losing weight (turned out she was jaundiced instead but i started to overeat as i felt like i was an awful mum)
Does anyone have any meal plans etc to lose the weight. I am breastfeeding so it should come off fairly speedy if i do it right. I need fast cheap meals as i dont have much time to cook, but dont want ready made stuff and i dont want my milk supply to dwindle.

Hi Roxie

Congratulations on your baby! I had my son 6 months ago so not long before you Smile

I have a stone to lose so I know what you mean! I'm currently doing my fitness plan which is free and seems to be working well. However I'm not breastfeeding and don't think the plan would be suitable for someone who is as you only eat 1200 cals per day which is low.

I generally eat porridge for breakfast, something like oatcakes with fat free cottage cheese and salad for lunch and something like breaded fish with veg and a couple of boiled potatoes for tea.

I don't add sugar/salt/butter to anything.

I drink a lot of water (and only skimmed milk)

I've cut out all biscuits/crisps/cakes.

Could you talk to your GP about the best way to lose weight while breastfeeding?

Also, for exercise, I walk with my ds in the pram. Even if I feel tired I find this do able and it makes me feel better if I get some fresh air. Is this something you can do?

Finally don't be too hard on yourself - it does take time to return to normal x

Hi, I've just started dieting on Monday, my baby is 6 and a half months old and have at least 2 stones to lose (but would prefer 2 and a half Grin)
I signed up to that hairy bikers diet club as it popped up on Facebook with a special offer but the diet is just calorie counting and you can use my fitness pal for free for the same thing.
They recommend a minimum of 1700 calories per day if you're breastfeeding. So far I've been having scrambled eggs on whole meal toast for breakfast, lean meat or fish with potatoes and loads of veggies for dinner and salads and soup for lunch. For snacks I've been having low fat yogurts and fruit.
Why don't you download MFP and have a play about putting foods that you normally have in to check the calories? That might give you ideas for a menu plan and help you to cut back
Good luck! Smile

Hi, my little boy is 3 months and I've got about a stone and a half to lose. I've just started using MyFitnessPal.com which is working for me as I can use any walks I do with LO as extra calories.

Also, try this recipe.... I plugged it into myfitnesspal and it says its only 245 calories per serving, and it's filling too! We have it at least once a week.

For 3 servings....

400g tinned toms
5 small new potatoes
1 carrot
1 leek
Approx 2/3 small tin sweet corn
Fish pie mix (Tesco is 325g)
Squidge tomato purée
Fish (or veg) stock cube
Chilli or chilli powder

Slice pots approx 1cm thick, put in pan with oil (using the 1 cal spray!) and sizzle for a mo.Â
Add toms and 2 canfulls of water.Â
Add stock cube, chilli and tom purée.

(Basically, the potatoes take 30 mins to cook, so you add the other bits so they're ready at the same time. The below is what I do....)

After 10 mins add carrots
After another 10 mins add the leeks
After another 5 mins add sweet corn and fish.

I've put in all sorts of veg, and it generally works, but I usually keep the leeks in there.

I did Slimming World to lose my baby weight both times. You don't need to join if you don't want to as you can get recipes from the website or buy the magazine for more recipes/a week's meal plan.

The reason I chose it is because like you, I was tired. This diet allowed me to eat regular food, cook from scratch or use shop bought stuff, and once I got into the swing of it I didn't need to give it much thought.

I actually went to the group with my baby. It was a nice break from the normal routine and if you breastfeed you are actually encouraged to eat more and the weight still comes off.

I lost 3 stone on it.
