When to start the diet?

My DS is 7 weeks tomorrow and being breastfed exc. I plucked up the courage to get on the scales and was 3 stone heavier than my pre-pregnacy weight of 11st - quite an unpleasant shock as i'd tried to convince myself that my massive pregnancy appetite had been sensible rather than the total pig out it really was! good fun at the time when there's not much else to enjoy - but now i'd like to shift the weight. does anyone have experience of dieting while bf-ing - will my milk production be affected (i'm going to restrict cals and aim to lose 1 to 2 lbs per week)??
Also - this is my first mumsnet post so apologies if i've broken etiquette in some way! I know this is thick of me but i don't understand what abbreviations stand for - assuming 'ds' means first son - well i'm talking about my baby boy - is that right!?

several people have done 5:2 while feeding - with no ill effects
come and have a look

Have just found the abbreviations for everything so feel a bit stoopid for earlier comments. I was thinking about 5:2 - but have instead gone for healthy-ish eating and lost 10lb in 4 weeks - must be the bf as never managed that before!!
