Breastfeeding and starving!

Hi I'm EBF DS and he's 15 weeks now. I started attempting to lose weight when he was 6 weeks and started really well at 2lbs a week for 4 weeks but nothing lost since.

The problem I have is that I'm always hungry. Not just hungry, not "could eat a scabby horse", but pain-in-tummy haven't eaten for a week hungry. All the time!

Now, I know all about starvation mode and thirst confusion etc. I drink plenty of water or tea and eat healthily. I've tried eating less or more to assess any changes to no avail. Absolutely nothing I do now shifts a pound! And I'm always hungry so the last week I kinda just gave up and eaten loads (still no weight change)!

I attend Pilates and Zumba plus 1 or 2 gym sessions every week and plenty of walking 1hr+. So exercise isn't an issue.

Any ideas? I'm not even going to try going below 1400 calories a day or I can't function. I was aiming for 1600-1800 until last week.

I think you're probably eating too few calories, but someone knowledgable will be along shortly I'm sure.

Thanks for replying. I'm not really calorie counting anymore, just eating every couple of hours and trying not to eat junk. I think my fitness regime is having an impact because my waist has decreased an inch despite staying the same weight. DH says muscle is heavier than fat so until my muscles settle then my weight is inaccurate.

This is probably not what you want to hear, but there are some women, me included, that don't lose weight at all whilst breastfeeding. I can eat 1200 or 2200 cals a day - my weight doesn't move.

How bizarre! I was so miffed last time because everyone told me you just drop the weight and I put on another stone in the year I was BF DD. well I've already lost over a stone in 3 months and my activity levels are much higher this time so it'll come off when it wants to!

I have never been so hungry as when I was breastfeeding, I have never felt anything like it. I didn't get back to my pre baby slimness until I stopped EBF. I think you have to allow yourself more time to lose the weight.

Glad I'm not the only one lol!
