Bullying, Year 7 boys

Just looking for some advice.
My son in year 7 had a falling out with a newish friend he doesn't know well. This boy then added him into a group chat with others saying he was going to fight him. (This was over the weekend) today another boy who is friends with the boy he has fallen out with said they are going to jump him after school. After school my son was walking with friends and the other boys was in front and kept saying things and then waiting till my sons friends left and then one boy pushed my son into a bush while another boy filmed it on his phone.
I have sent an email to the school.
What is the best way to handle this situation

I have told my son to stick up for himself and if someone hits him to hit back because they won't stop if they think he's an easy target

if were me I’d request a meeting with the headteacher to explain my son had been assaulted and ask what they intend to do about it.
your email, if no response within 12 hr call
and request to speak with head about it asap over phone or face to face meeting.
Does he have a good circle of real friends? If so hopefully he can garner their support in the face of this bullying / assault
sorry your going thru this
