My husband is always critical of me for example he will say things such as how do you get by in life ( if l make a mistake). He gets cross if l don't wrap the cheese properly, or if l take too many biscuits. He tells me off in public and if l say anything he gets even angrier. He has punched a hole in the door before, thrown a plate at the telly. He calls my adult son horrible names. He gets drunk a lot and suffers from ptsd l feel like l am walking on eggshells

You need to leave him. Right now

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 15/01/2024 13:55

You need to make plans to leave. Do you own or rent?

gallgirl · 15/01/2024 13:59

I rent. I am worried l can't afford to rent on my own and my son does not work

Tell your son to get a job, any job, immediately, and get away from this man. You can't live like this.

Mabelface · 15/01/2024 14:07

You'll find a way, but right now you need some help. Women's aid can be a good starting point, and they can advise on benefits etc.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 15/01/2024 19:44

@gallgirl Can you son get a job? Unless there are issues stopping him from working, he needs to step up and start earning so you can both get to safety.

As PP said, try Women's Aid

Do you have any family aside from your son?

Get your ducks in a row, find somewhere you can afford even if it's a studio, your son needs to get a job any job and help you , don't put up with this, but don't say anything till you are in a position to leave. You can report this to the police. It sounds like coercive and controlling, or contact a domestic violence charity for advice ( domestic violence is not just about being hit) good luck
