Old boys took stuff out my sons bag and shoved his friend

DS just started S1 (we’re in Scotland) so is 12. He’s settled in well, enjoys school, there has been no issues and normally walks home with a group of friends, but today he had an appointment so I got him to walk about 10mins to where I could park easily so I could take him straight there, so wasn’t with his pals.

Anyway, this evening he let on that walking to meet me, 4 older boys (maybe S3 or S4) surrounded him took something out of his bag wouldn’t give it back then pushed another boy he’d met on route into a bush. They then said sorry it was an accident and gave him his stuff back and ran off.

I’m absolutely fuming. DS says he’ll just not walk that way again, walk with his friends, but did say he felt a bit scared.

What to do? My gut instinct is to not do anything at this point encourage my son to walk with friends and hope it was a one off. But on the other hand I’d love to chap the main bullies door and see what his parents say (this is a nice area, people move here to get into that school) or better still husband just so happens to catch him when he’s on his own and says hello, I know you don’t I? I’m glad my son told me, want him to feel safe to keep doing so.
