Am thinking about doing this with my 12 year old. Issue with I have put in an in year transfer form, but am unsure if there's even a space. But he nor I feel he is safe at school and it's causing intolerable stress on the family.

If I knew it would be for a few months,I'd do it in a heartbeat. My concern is I de register and I never get him back at a new school!

Sorry you’re going through this OP. I hope someone more expert comes along but I’d not be tempted to deregister just yet. Are school aware of the issues and have they done anything to try and resolve? Have you escalated anywhere? Any outside agencies involved? What help are you trying to get for him?

If you deregister, the LA is not under the same obligation to find a suitable school for him, so do be careful. Obviously different LAs have different procedures, but just speaking from experience.

You need to tell the school what is happening, stress that he is not safe, and re use to send him back in until they have set out a clear plan of how they will ensure his safety and well-being.

Homeschool while waiting, but do not detegister as then you lose all leverage.

Ask school to provide work? See GP re anxiety (caused by feeling unsafe?). Make sure the EWO knows why he’s not in.

I deregistered dd in June this year and had a place at a new school by July but chose not to start until the new school year in September but I would say do what @KleineDracheKokosnuss suggests. I would have done this had I known that I could.
The school do threaten Educational Welfare if your child is missing school and this is what pushed me to deregister.
