Bullying at work

Hi all,

Feel silly writing this mainly after reading the titles of other threads and most involve kids.

So I’m 24 and 5’1. My height has never before in my life been a problem until the job that I’m in now. I’ve been there for three years.

Everyone does nothing but comment on my hight. I’m constantly called a midget, a short arse and constantly called 3ft. When this happens I have to try really hard not to get upset and snap. I just laugh it off. I wouldn’t mind but the main ring caller is only 5’4 her self.
I also wouldn’t mind but every one at work that’s involved in this is morbidly obese.
I have nothing against bigger people but there seems to be this big no no area of calling someone fat to their face. What’s the difference if your going to call a small person a midget to there face!!!

I feel like I can’t even to go my manager as the whole thing seems so ridiculous, going to the office to report that I’m being bullied at the age of 24 because of my height. I feel like a 7 year old.

I do think sometimes that I need to stand up for my self and when I’m called a midget say I’d rather be short that be a fuking wale u fat bitch. I’m genetically small, your greedily fat.

Would this be wrong of me.
As I said I don’t have anything against fat people so don’t want anyone on here to get offended. I’m just looking for a solution to give these bitches a taste of their own medicine to see if is shuts them up.

Thanks xxx

It is bullying and it’s not on.

I wouldn’t retaliate by being nasty back but I would do one of two things.

Go grey rock and ignore every comment or have a few stick replies

Stubby fingers!

Have a few stock replies.

‘Short jokes again?’
‘Why are you so obsessed with my height!’

I know other posters will have loads of better ones but you get my drift!

I’m 5’ 2” so I get you!

I would (and have gone) to HR about this. (possibly a couple of times)

That way when nothing was done when I finally shot back at them there was a record of what had gone on before, then you have covered your own back and can look at legal recompense if it goes that far.

They sound like silly and childish schoolroom bullies, actually that's unfair to schoolchildren. Dont retaliate, can you try and smile to yourself and say something like small but perfectly formed, I am small and people sometimes took the piss and it was tempting to say something back but they're not worth it, dont waste your energy on these people. You could buy a bulk bag of Midget gems and put them on their desks. If it continues I would speak to your line manager, just say you find it very unprofessional and a bit silly.

Bullying or intimidation in the workplace should be nipped in the bud, it has no place anywhere. I see first hand the damage that bullies can have on a persons mental health and it makes my blood boil. Bullies are usually so insecure and insanely jealous of the person that they are bullying.
Is there a workplace bullying and harassment policy ? If so have a look.
Hold your head up high and don’t let them grind you down. Remember it’s them that has the problem not you. In my experience bullies soon get bored ...
