What do you do when they're only 5?

For some reason, my girl has been singled out and is being ignored/excluded by the majority of the 19 girls in her reception class. The 'ringleader' (for want of a better phrase when they are all so young) is just plain nasty and the others seem to copy. What can I do? My girl loved going to school when she started and now cries daily. The teachers are monitoring it but a lot of the mean stuff happens when they are not around. In the last few years, I've had 3 miscarriages and a husband battling cancer but the heartbreak of those situations doesn't come close to what I feel when I see my lovely girl in tears. Will it be forgotten over the holidays?

That is awful. I would be asking for a meeting with the head teacher if you thibk the class teacher is being ineffectual.

Hope your DD has a wonderful summer holidays away from it all :)

There must be some girls who are nice and need a friend - can you invite them over the summer to build relationships? The more friends the better protected she'll be

Otherwise is there another class she can move into?

Sadly not but we have extended invitations to others in it. I wish we could fast forward a couple of years so I'd know if the dynamics change for the better.
