Son Bullied Because of Plucking his eyebrows

My son was teased by girls for having a unibrow and a moustache. So, he decided to pluck his eyebrows and shave his moustache. He told me they still make fun of him for doing this and wishes he never started in the first place. I can tell he has over plucked them, so he is now letting them grow back. What should we do?

I knew a kid who shaved off half his eyebrows when he was 13. He actually came back from a week's holiday after midterm and they'd grown back.

Kids are bastards! They'll always bully you for something, what that is isn't really relevant to them.

I used to be bullied by some boys at school as I had a bit of a moustache. I started bleaching it. Then another dark haired girl who was their friend and who also had a tache started bullying me for having a blonde tache!

Once his eyebrows grow back they'll move onto someone or something else. Best thing he can do is to try not to care what they say and do whatever he prefers with his brows/hair/clothes etc.

My DS1 is very unusual looking (by choice!) and he has learned to ignore all the comments that come his way and just go about his business not caring what they think of him! I used to worry about him being teased or bullied for looking different, but he just keeps himself to himself.

Now that bullying has started, keep a very close eye on things to make sure it does not become regular or damaging.
Bullies as DS and you have found out, will not be appeased and will always find an excuse to bully. So they may continue.
Speak to your DS regularly. Not right after school but after a snack or supper. Ask him about school and about the children at school. Ask open but specific questions such as 'did anyone say nasty things to you today?' or 'did anyone cause you to feel unhappy or upset?'. Ask this regularly and dont expect him to divulge of his own accord.

Poor lad. I'd tell him to stop plucking his eyebrows, it's a job for a pro. In my city, Turkish barbers are all the rage-you get ear hair, nasal hair, eyebrows and head hair done in one go.

Absolutely FULL of men taking care of their hair removal without shame and often having a laugh! He's just ahead of the trend! Are there any near you?

As for the bullying aspect, speak to school if this is where it's happening, they need to know.
