How much colostrum should I collect

I’m 38+ 2, I’ve been collecting colostrum for the last week, it’s been easier and more successful than I expected! I’ve so far collected 12 1ml syringes full!

How much do I need? Should I carry on? Should I stop?

What do you plan to do with it?

12 is great but the more the merrier in my opionion . Don't forget to take some to the hospital with you , it was fantastic when I was still woozy from general anaesthetic and when my baby was too tired to try and latch

12ml is a really good amount. I think I only had 6ml but was able to express some more in the first 24 hours after labour when my baby had trouble latching. I probably used about 10ml in total. Obviously lots of people don't need it but I was very glad that I had some.

I didn't need any with DS as he just latched and ate from the moment he arrived

DD found BFing really tricky so I was trying to express into a syringe as she screamed. I wish I had gotten colostrum before but I didn't think I'd need it. Is 5mls a feed at that age? I needed the syringes for the first few days, so wohld have loved to havr had about 30mls I'd say

I did 20ml as that's how many syringes I had, never needed it and when I did try it during an unsettled period baby was having none of it! Some were left in the hospital freezer but it was good to know I had them and gave me some confidence. If you have more syringes then keep going but no need to go mad. Good luck!
