Good morning. I had my beautiful baby girl 2 weeks ago today and she was born at 26 + 5 days. I haven’t been able to have skin to skin with her and I’m at home most of the time with my other 2 children as she’s in NICU. The only thing I can do for her is breast pump to give her my milk. However I feel like I’m pumping near to nothing and I’m now 2 weeks pp and worried this pumping journey is coming to an end already. Is there any advice someone can give me to help me as I feel like this is the only thing I’m able to do for her. First time doing this as my other two were formula fed.

Gosh OP, so sorry for what sounds like a very difficult situation! Hope she is doing well in NICU.

First off - do you have a decent pump? Have you measured your nipples and got the right flange size? Are the hospital able to loan you a pump?

Are you drinking 3+L of fluid a day? And eating a high calorie diet/regular meals?

I read oats are good for milk supply so had a small bowl of oats for substantial snacks when trying to up my supply initially. High fat foods such as avocados etc too. Are you able to have anything of DD’s to smell while you are pumping? And to look at pictures of her? Easier said than done I am sure, but try & sit down with a cuppa to relax while you pump. The more stressful it is the less oxytocin you will be able to release which is needed to activate a letdown of milk!
