Previously used a pump occasionally (the Lansinoh electric) with first DC and would like to express this time around too. I purchased a recommended cheaper double pump off amazon which felt like it was pinching when I tried it. I then ordered a Lansinoh double electric as I had used this previously with no problems and it came with standard and large shield sizes but this hasn’t helped. It still feels like it’s pinching regardless of the size used. I have googled and the flange isn’t too small, if anything even the small pulls quite a bit of the areola into the pump but not sure they do a smaller size or insert that I could use? Any advice please as I can’t just keep purchasing things in the hope it might work.

I might be misunderstanding - my baby let me sleep for about 3 hours last night - but I think this means the flange is too small. Pretty sure the areola isn't meant to get pulled into the (cylindrical part of the) flange..?

I have a medela pump and used this guide: www.medelabreastfeedingus.com/article/143/breast-shield-sizing:-how-to-get-the-best-fit

The most accurate way for me was to measure around the base of the nipple with a piece of string and then calculate the diameter from the circumference. A bit of a faff but it made pumping much more comfortable! FWIW I thought my nipples were pretty average sized but I measured as an XL - confirmed by the infant feeding midwife who said most women don't see enough breasts to know what "average sized" nipples look like 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just wondered if I can pump before baby is born. Due today and was thinking if it’s ok to try and stock up on milk ?
