First time Mum - Breastfeeding / pump help!

Hey,

I’m pregnant with my first baby, currently 34+2 😊 I’m super excited but also nervous!

I think I’ve bought everything we need, apart from bottles, a steriliser and a pump.

I’m planning to breastfeed and at the antenatal classes I’ve been to they’ve recommended not expressing for the first 4-6 weeks, however I’d like to have everything ready.

I keep reading about the Medela pumps, are these the ones to buy?

Do I need to buy bottles and a steriliser separately? And can you recommend which to buy?

Any help would be much appreciated xxx

Congratulations! I wouldn't buy too much stuff at first to be honest as you never know how feeding is going to go. You're not meant to pump or offer a bottle to breastfed babies for 6 weeks as you've said so you've loads of time. My dd took a bottle a few times but when we didn't stick with it she refused the next time and ever since. The medela calms bottle has good reviews but didn't work for us, maybe if we had tried it at first it might have. I got a Philips avent electric pump and did use it a few times, but to be honest hand expressing was quicker. Expressing is a huge faff.

I didn't buy a steriliser, if you are purely breastfeeding and just giving a few bottles I wouldn't bother.paid a tenner for a Milton pot.

You can borrow/loan a breast pump from nct or the hospital.

The medela was great for me but there are other electric pumps just as good. I liked the medela because I could have a different size of top to accommodate my big boobs.
