Could I have Mastitis?

Very sore breast since middle of last night- feels bruised like it's been pulled at a lot. Feels hot to touch but then so does the other one, can't really decide whether it's more than the other side or not. No redness though.

Feel very cold and shivery, don't have a thermometer to take temp but on one of the hottest days of the year I am in a cardigan and in bed with duvet over me and freezing as soon as I get out! Also just feel unwell, extremely tired.

DS is 4wks today, feeding ok but unsettled and snacking a lot. Breast sore when feeding but not agonising.

I'm thinking I'll give it til the morning and ring docs if no better, WWYD? I know no-one can diagnose me but I guess what I'm asking is is it possible to just have some of the symptoms of Mastitis?

Yes, it does sound like it. Typical flu like symptoms and sore boobs. I remember when I had it, it felt like I'd been punched in the boob.

Feed as much as poss, go braless as much as poss, take ibuprofen every few hours.

I would recommend seeing a doc but you may not be able to now until Mon?

It certainly sounds like mastitis, I have an 11 week old and am on my 2nd bout. How do you feel about taking anti-biotics when BF? My doc had to prescribe them for me both times, as the last time my temp reached 104!
I would def go to your docs as soon as you can. I also found that putting a hot flannel on the boob helped, plus a hot bath and massaging it gently. Also make sure you feed off the that boob and after a feed express so that it is fully emptied. Take paracetamol for your temperature.
Poor you! It is a grim feeling, but once you have your anti-biotics it will go very quickly.

I posted about having mastitis yesterday. You're symptoms sound exactly like mine. I would go the the doctor as soon as poss - out of hours service if necessary. You don't want to wait too long or it could turn nasty. I've been taking antibiotics for about 24 hours and now feel completely fine.
