BF on demand and tooth cleaning

DS is 6.5mo (where has the time gone!!) and is the very proud owner of 2 bottom teeth. He still has regular feeds and feeds every 2-3 hours day and night (yawn). I know that you're meant to clean their teeth as soon as they come through, but when do people do this? Twice a day? Once a day? After every feed?

Thanks

My dd is 9m and we clean her teeth at bathtime before she gets her bedtime bottle. mostly her eating toothpaste, rather than proper brushing. Had a talk this week about babies' teeth at the group run by our HV and was reassured that the lady said not a big problem if teeth cleaned before last bottle (seemed to understand that if you've got a baby settled at night you're not going to want to wake them up by brushing teeth). She even suggested that evening not necessarily best time to brush teeth if dc too tired / unhappy, and could do it earlier, at least til they got used to it. My dentist friend also thought main thing is just to get some fluoride on the teeth. Biggest problem is 'baby bottle mouth', which can happen when babies are left with a bottle of milk or juice in their cot to suck on and off all night. May not be ideal if your ds still night feeding, but hopefully not for too much longer (more for your sake that the sake of your ds's teeth!)

I went to the dentist last Friday and asked the very same question!

He recommended brushing once or twice a day, simply to get them used to the idea and routine.

Thanks guys, laughed at the eating toothpaste bit! I think that we might be in a similar situation here soon. Still, BLW and all that.....
