Hi there

I'm more of a lurker here so this is my first post...

My 5 month old DD2 is exclusively BF, we have been trying pretty much since birth to get her to take a bottle but she is having non of it! She will have a drink of water from a cup but if I try milk in a cup (mine or formula), she just clams her mouth shut!

DD1 had formula top ups from birth so she switched to a bottle very easily from around 6 months. I planned to BF DD2 for 6 months max too. Does anyone have any really good advice (based on their own sucess!) on how I get her to switch? I have read on a formula box that a baby of 7 months only needs 3 milk feeds a day, so I guess I can dwindle it down in 6 weeks or so, we have started weaning her which she is enjoying very much!

Any replies would be greatfully received!

Thanks

Kerry xx

We are in the process of introducing formula from EBF. We tried introducing it during the day and our DS wouldn't touch it. But my sister suggested 'sneaking' it upon him at his late feed as he's really hungry and sleepy. He's generally too sleepy to notice straight away and will take about 3oz. He's getting better at taking formula and will now take a bottle during the day. Worth a try?

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried this!

I am 99% certain that I am going to completely bypass the bottles, y'day afternoon she took a small amount of EBM from a Boots first cup so that's progress! The 1% holding me back is that I know babies get comfort from having milk from a bottle, but I guess I should go with what she wants. I am wondering if she simply doesn't like the feel of a rubber teat in her mouth!

Hi, seem to be getting there slowly with DD who is 23 weeks. Was tearing my hair out and wondering how i was ever going to be able to go back to work 2 weeks ago until I tried feeding her EBM in her bouncy chair rather than holding her and for some reason she drank it. Then increased to 3 feeds per day of EBM, once established started sneaking in a bit of formula. Now on 2oz formula mixed with 3oz EBM x3 per day, all in bouncy chair. I'm taking it really really slowly and once she is happily knocking back a bottle of formula I'll try holding her to feed her (bit of a nightmare lugging the chair round with us!). It's a hassle expressing esp with a toddler who is fascinated by the breast pump but we seem to be heading in the right direction.
Might be worth a try, let me know how you get on

Thanks guys

Just y'day I sat DD2 in her bouncer chair whilst I read some books to DD1, I put 3 oz's of EBM in a cup & offered it to DD1 not really making a big thing of it, & sure enough she drank it! Okay her bib was v.wet, we were both smiling a lot from the sucess so a fair bit dribbled out but it's definitely a start!

I plan to get her established on EMB in a cup then I will start adding an ounce or so or formula & see how we go

Thanks again, will keep you posted!
