Follow on formula - before 6 months?

I was told first time round that it isn't necessary to switch to follow on formula at 6 months + as the stage 1 formula is fine past that age.

I did switch to follow on, mainly as you can get it on offer and you could get boots points etc

So my question is, if there's no benefit to follow on formula after 6 months, is there any harm to using it instead of stage 1 formula prior to 6 months, even from birth?

Yes, there is the potential for harm.

Its less modified, so it could strain a tiny baby's kidneys. Plus it has higher levels of iron among other things which could be dangerous for a younger baby. More isn't always better.

Thanks for that - the only info I can get from MW / HV is that you don't need to switch to follow on, which I knew. Very useful to have the info re: iron levels etc. Thanks.
