Done peer support, what next?

I'm going to unofficially support people i know (if they want me to, of course!) but not going to be able to do much if any of the stuff we were meant to be setting ourselves up for on the course, unfortunately.

Counselling is not for me for a number of reasons - i am not good at that sort of thing, also about to start FT work.

I want to get invlved in more wide reaching stuff, more public health / policy stuff. Is this even possible? Any ideas?

SPB - is there a bf policy or strategy group in your area, which has members from different healthcare sectors and volunteers? If so, maybe you could join it?

Has your local hospital got an MSLC, Maternity Services Liason Committee? That would tie in well with BF support I reckon.(am currently doing mother supporter module myself and trying to get on MSLC)

watching thread.

I just finished my peer supporter course and I'm hoping to join the committee - they do fundraising so we can run more support groups, and raising awareness etc.

would like to do a breastfeeding counsellor course (is that NCT or do LLL have one too?) if possible, one day.

ABM also do breastfeeding counselling training, that's who I am doing the Mother Supporter (like peer support)training with, may be worth a look?

Linky here although seems to be down just at this moment

And NCT do breastfeeding counsellor courses, too, although they call it 'breastfeeding supporter'.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/07/2010 14:26

Gah, not NCT, BfN.

thanks everyone - had forgotten about theMSLC, definitely a good place to start.
Will look into whether there's a policy or strategy group too and see if I can push my way in
