Messy bottle feeder getting worse!

My DS is 6 months old, I was only able to BF him for 4 days after he was born and he was weaned early for various reasons (not really the subject of the post) including reflux so much so that he is now on 3 decent sized meals per day with sips of water from a cup and he is already coping with lumpy food etc.
He has always been a hungry, noisy, big feeder (6 month/ 4 hole teats from 3 months) despite his reflux but thankfully he is much less sick now but remains on Gaviscon.

He is now down to 3 bottles per day of approx 9oz milk (his own demands/ routine) but is getting so messy at feeds spilling milk all over trying to get the whole teat in his mouth, practically soaking himself, me, my chair etc!

It's probably more annoying for me than problematic for him but have others experienced this and is it just a phase or maybe time to push the cup more? (I feel he's too young but I know others go straght from breast to cup) Don't really want to start trying lots of different teats etc.

I would say there are too many holes in the teat

why else would he be spilling it out everywhere

He has never spilled any before and he has been on this teat for 3 months that's why I don't know what's going on! Not sure why it wold suddenly become a problem, can try going back to 3 holes
