today I donated my first batch of breastmilk to my local milk-bank......I feel very proud of myself and would like to thank MN for giving me the idea in the first place, it was on someones thread and I googled milk-banks, and here I am, giving my milk to sick babies at Southampton Hospital

ClimberChick · 02/07/2010 06:45

awwwwwww fantastic, doubly well done (1) doing a good thing and (2) following through an idea

rubyslippers · 02/07/2010 06:48

and so you should

MoonFaceMama · 02/07/2010 08:16

well done! Now i feel bad as i thought about this, and for no reason at all, didn't follow through.

Now i'll look into it!

Well done you! I also searched for milk banks but sadly couldn't find any in my area. It's lovely to think that some teeny tiny little baby will soon be growing big and strong on your milk. Well done

Brilliant, what a great thing to do.
Do you think enough people know about milk banks- where are they advertised?

HoopsAndBaby · 02/07/2010 13:52

I think donating is a great idea. Good for you!

MoonFaceMama · 04/07/2010 09:50

my nearest bank is fourty miles away and doesn't collect

maygirl · 04/07/2010 15:29

I've just started donating too, so satisfying to see the little bottles of creamy milk building up in the freezer
Looking forwards to dropping some off at hospital soon.

I knew about milk banks but what I didn't know was that they accept one-off donations too. At least, Queen Charlotte's in London does. When the wee one was discharged from SCBU, my freezer drawer at the unit was so full of EBM, i couldn't take it all home. The breastfeeding nurse then suggested donating some of it. I was so happy that my wee one and me got to help other preemies.

HoopsAndBaby, well done! I'm so impressed with women who choose to donate regularly (and not accidentally like me ) And you're absolutely right, not enough people know about milk banks, which is a great pity. Best of luck with expressing!
