Which formula?

Can anyone advise which formula is best to use in their experience? Heard SMA can cause constipation. My friend and i were discussing it - she bottle feeds, i breast feed, thought it was worth asking about.

I think it is a matterof trial and error. My older two were weaned onto cow and gate, which was fine for them. The dts were really unsettled on it and I'm fairly certain it was giving dt2 excema. They have sma wih no probs. My oldest refused point blank to drink sma.

After breastfeeding I tried Cow&Gate, Farleys, Soya formula and some variants for hungry babies of the same brands. Cow&Gate was the worst with difference, DS crying in pain with constipation and it was under this milk that his eczema started. Farleys was OK, soya didn't make a difference but now I know (through consecuences) that it was not exactly a good idea to introduce soya that early. Aptamil was a saviour, constipation disapeared and the eczema was slightly better. HTH

I fed SMA to DS2, on occasions when they didn't have the normal one in stock at Tesco we tried other brands and he was fine with all of them.

It was my DS1 (who was totally BF) who had the constipation issues LOL

DS was 4 weeks early and I had to breast & bottle feed for a while due to exhaustion. In the Transitional Care unit he has on Aptimil. I continued with this at home. Very pleased with it.

P.S> Having said that, I believe that there's a perfect brand for each different baby but IME most people who tries Aptamil sticks to it.

I breastfed then went onto Aptimil....no probs at all.

Personally, having fed Jess SMA Gold from 4 days old.... i wish i hadnt! She was SO sick! Switched her to progress milk at 8 motnhs old and sick stopped!

I breastfed then swapped to aptamil at 6 months on HVs suggestion

i think it is trial and error if switching from breastfeeding, aptimil is the best to try with due to the consistency being the most similar to breastmilk, my ds was advised to be given that whilst I was in hospital and couldn't feed him. But otherwise sma, cow & gate etc i think are personal choice.
