Medela Lactina Pump - How to use it?

So I went into work to trial the breast pumps they have(lucky I know). All the pump rooms have the medela lactina. Didn't do a full express as LO was due for a feed, but was very impressed.

I know how to work the mechanics of it, but not how to choose which settings I want.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the regulator adjusts the intensity while the knob (he he) changes the speed. What kind of feeling should I be looking for and WHY are there TWO controls (too much thinking required). I assume you have the same setting throughout, otherwise how can you change it, if both your hands are busy holding bottles.

The manual just says set regulator to minimum and start pumping (very useful).

btw those who followed my tearful upset over not a lot the other day. LO has had a magical 24hrs of feeding without crying. Lets see if it lasts.
