Is this a clogged milk duct?

I'm breastfeeding and last night I found a lump in my breast. It's about almond-sized and quite hard. I assumed it was a blockage but after reading about them I'm not sure.

It's near my breastbone, so not near the nipple, there's no redness or visible swelling, only sore to the touch, no blisters or white spots on the nipple. What do you think?

I'm not an expert so if you're worried get it checked out. If it is a blocked duct you should be able to clear it by massaging it towards the nipple when you do your next feed - sore but it should work. If that doesn't work I'd visit your GP just incase.

Massage in the direction of milk flow while feeding just in case. Sounds a lot like the lump I had which was pretty static in feel/size for a week until I happened to have my six week postnatal check, and that very day the surface of the breast became red and tender to the touch. Had to whack it with two weeks of antibiotics (could still bf though, and did) but it still ended up as mastitis, ow, fistula, ow, scar.

I had a blocked milk duct a couple of times in the last 2 or 3 months. There was no redness or swelling with mine just a hard lump which felt a little bit sore. Try leaning over the sink and with a warm flannel expressing milk from the hard lump towards your nipple. If milk starts to come out the chances are it is a clogged duct. It took me about 3 attempts to get the blockages to clear completely. I think doing this in the shower helped too. Of course if this doesn't help you should pop to the doctors just to have it checked out as you don't want to risk infection by leaving it too long. Hope this helps.
