tehy are about to talk about whether breastfeeding should be kept off public transport. cant wait to see what rubbish they come up with, they always do BF a disservice when they talk about it.

carols twitter page anyone know how to put our comments on here?

picklesrule · 28/06/2010 13:27

they felt, assuming your baby was tiny, there was 'a time and a place' for breastfeeding (which they did acknowledge was important 'in the early days') which was not apparently in a cafe or restaurant or anywhere they might have to see you

StealthPolarBear · 28/06/2010 13:29

oh well that's me told then.
Thank goodness they aired this programme

MathsMadMummy · 28/06/2010 13:32

so were they all supping from their water glasses while chatting then?

maybe next time they want a drink they can go and sit in the toilet

Hobnobfanatic · 28/06/2010 13:33

MrsJamin · 28/06/2010 13:35

carriedababi - you can't put your comments on her twitter page, that's just what she alone can write. If you're on twitter you can write "@mcgiff ..." and she can choose to read them but it's not guaranteed that she will.

V glad I didn't see it - after that stupid article in Mother and Baby magazine this is all we need. I'm getting more aware of myself feeding in public (especially as 4MO DS2 comes off, squirms and cries on me sometimes) but it would never stop me doing it and if anyone questionned me about doing it they would have a fight on their hands!

traceybath · 28/06/2010 13:35

Hilarious - aren't these women photographed a lot - flashing their knickers etc when coming out of bars drunk.

I find that far more offensive than someone bf fa baby.

fifitot · 28/06/2010 13:40

FFs - so annoyed at that!

'A time and a place' - so what do you do exactly when you are out and your baby is screaming for a feed? Leave them to starve?

Our society is so fucked up about breasts it is unbelievable!

StealthPolarBear · 28/06/2010 13:40

MMM they're at the age now where they don't need water - it's just for comfort

booyhoo · 28/06/2010 13:41

i have posted on the LW discussion page ( i think i might have posted twice

OP posts:
MisterMahoohoo · 28/06/2010 13:45

Yeah, so it's ok for Carol McGiffin to 'get them out' in bars and hotel lobbys (I'm sure she's admitted to being naked in a hotel lobby before) because she's a booze soaked hag had one too many, but hang your heads in shame all those who dare foist the disgusting sight of their nursing child on the poor unsuspecting public. What?

Argh! Between them and Matthew Wright, it's a wonder my T.V. hasn't got a stool embedded in it this morning. I'm only bloody watching this crap cos I'm ill - it's quite amazing how much ignorant, hypocritical bollox you can fit in to a couple of hours of telly.

booyhoo · 28/06/2010 13:46

i am still seething. the ignorance really astounds me.

OP posts:
MathsMadMummy · 28/06/2010 13:52

if we don't have women on our side (and presumably some of the LW are mothers?) we're really buggered

booyhoo · 28/06/2010 13:53

3 of those panelists are mothers mathsmad

OP posts:
curlyLJ · 28/06/2010 13:55

i didn't see it, but I wish I had. It makes me so angry that people can still be so narrow minded and ignorant.

Our BF rates are low enough in this country and even those that do it tend to stop by 6 months - a situation which is not helped by the ridiculous attitudes of idiots like this.

How can they say there is a time and a place? Try telling that to my very hungry 15wo DD when she wants a feed

loopyloo82 · 28/06/2010 13:58

That's exactly the point, curly- there isn't a time or place when it comes to breastfeeding, it is anywhere and any time, and that's exactly how it should be.

booyhoo · 28/06/2010 14:00

google carol mcgiffin images and the first page shows her flashing her arse. how is that better than a woman feeding a child?

OP posts:
picklesrule · 28/06/2010 14:09

still seething too booyhoo just trying to compose an email that isnt too sweary!!

MathsMadMummy · 28/06/2010 14:21

ooh copy and paste your email here pickles

as an aside how do I get onto that twitter thing at the side of the MN page? do I do @MumsnetTowers first?

loopyloo82 · 28/06/2010 14:23

Here is my e-mail just sent:

I am writing to convey my disappointment and anger over the breastfeeding 'debate' that took place on today's show. In fact, I would not go so far as to call it a debate as all the women expressed the same view to a greater or lesser degree; that breastfeeding is a good thing "in the early days" but that there is a "time and place" for it, in case people are made to feel uncomfortable.

There are many flaws in these arguments, but here is my take:

  1. Breastfeeding is a good thing far beyond "the early days", and should be encouraged and supported for as long as a mother and her baby want it to continue.
  2. Breastfeeding mothers should be made to feel comfortable and valued by society wherever and whenever they need to feed their child. If people feel uncomfortable about this, then they need to examine why and challenge their own views and misconceptions, and society needs to change, NOT the mother's decision to breastfeed in public.

It is television programmes like these that inform society's views of what is normal and what is acceptable, and so I feel it is highly irresponsible programming to show such a one-sided debate. How will a new mother about to venture out with her hungry newborn feel about feeding her baby in a cafe, shop or other public place if she has just watched your programme?

Shame on you. I hope you will consider the many complaints you are bound to receive on this subject and rectify the situation by airing a more balanced and positive debate.

MathsMadMummy · 28/06/2010 14:25

absolutely fab email loopy - couldn't have put it better myself

booyhoo · 28/06/2010 14:26

loopy that is a great email. i highly doubt they will ever have a balanced discussion on LW about BF, none of them see BF for what it is, that was obvious today.

OP posts:
loopyloo82 · 28/06/2010 14:28

No, sadly not booyhoo.. perhaps they could invite us on... they wouldn't know what had hit them .

mrsgordonfreeman · 28/06/2010 14:30

Have sent a Twitter response to @mcgiff. Even if she doesn't see it, all my followers will

Never watch Loose Women anyway, it is a vile beige programme hosted by vile beige harpies whose skin tone matches their hair.

Beige.

BornToFolk · 28/06/2010 14:30

Of course there's a time and place for breastfeeding....the time is when your baby's hungry and the place is wherever you happen to be!

Good email Loopyloo. I hope they actually pay some attention to it.
