Hi there, my 2 week old has brought up a whole feed every day for the past 3 days. Is this normal - my ds1 only ever did this once in his whole breastfeeding career.

DS used to do this and the HV kept telling me it was normal - at one point we got the GP out on a weekend (he was not impressed and acted as if we were worried over a little sick up - he would projectile over the next chair). I was told not to worry about it. Have new HV with DD and when I mentioned it to her, she said it sounded like DS probably had silent reflux, and should have been picked up. - Mention it to your HV and see what she says. It may be nothing, as you probably know, babies are very good at regulating their own intake of calories and will get rid of what they don't need.

It's just sometimes you end up needing to change baby, then shower and clean clothes for you too don't you, as if you haven't got enough to do! and DS was immediately wanting another feed straight away (new HV said this was the indication it may have been reflux). As always, if nappies wet and poos regular, then see how he goes over next couple of days and ring HV/see GP?

Thanks kate, will go to hv if it continues. Sitting here in my pants again as he drenched me! Thinking I will need a second sling at this rate - one on, one in the wash! Anyway, he seems well apart from the dramatic barfing.

DS2 did this - but grew out of it (now 10 weeks). If it happens more than 3 or 4 times def worth speaking to GP.

Try and keep upright after a feed and pull off for lots of burping.

As his weight has dropped from 50% to 25% centile GP wanted to medicate but I said lets wait 2 weeks and now 10 days later he hasn't been sick at all.

Sounds like reflux.

I mentioned ds3 doing this to the gp and her question was "did he paint the walls?" I didn't think he was that bad so said no. Ignoring that me and him had to change about 5times a day.

Finally diagnosed by a spinal consultant who saw him and had his feet painted during the consultation about his back.

He suggested gaviscon, the gp prescribed it because a consultant had said so, and we never looked back.

If he continues I would go to hv armed with info and ask for a prescription. La Leche league were good. Or the midwife?

I would ask your GP to take a look. My son had a condition called 'pyloric stenosis' age 2 - 3 weeks. It is very similar to reflux symptoms but, if diagnosed, requires an operation to correct it. My son started off throwing up very lavishly once a day and then it progressed to every feed. It's more common in boys than girls.

So trust your judgement. But I'd suggest GP rather than HV if it gets worse.

Sorry for delay in responding - I will get medical advice if it recurs - he hasn't done it since Sunday now and hope it was just one of those things.
