i have mastitis, prob since saturday afternoon. dd is 9weeks, been feeding as constantly as possible off infected breast etc. have been on flucloxacillin since 11 am yesterday.
i can't sleep i feel so ill, painful breast, very achy. main problem is i can't regulate my temp, either freezing and shivering or, asnow, running with sweat, despite paracetamol.
will try combing next, but dd not settled so can't look after self too well.
dh says he can1t stay home tomorrow as has meetings. don't know how i am going to cope. as well as dd have ds 3.10 and dd 23months.

i feel so rubbish and sad

Major sympathies. Can you take ibuprofen as well as paracetamol re the temperature? The antibiotics should kick in by 48hours - otherwise see your GP in case of an abscess. Is there anyone who can help with the older ones at all? This is time to ask for help. Had mastitis with DS and was so horrid. Get well soon.

that is awful for you. i agree try the ibuprofen. also, if you can do the combing in a hot bath and work up to massaging it that would probably help. hopefully the antibiotics will make you feel a bit better soon x

I had this when DS was 3 weeks and it was AWFUL. My temp was 39.7 and I was so sick I was almost hospitalised. I soooo sympathise.

I took paracetamol every 4-6 hours (no more than 8 in 24 hours though) and ibuprofen in between so I was always covered. The main thing is to get your temp down so dress lightly, sponge yourself with tepid water (all the things you do with kids). When you are shivering your temp is rising, so sweaty is better honest!

You will feel better soon honestly - I was much better 36 hours after starting the antibiotics.

Good luck and get well soon.

ps savoy cabbage leaves on the affected breast are supposed to help too, if you can find any.
