returning to work part time and BF

I am returning to work part time next week and wondering about the logistics of expressing and feeding baby when I am at work.

Has anyone got any useful tips about how to maintain my supply for the days when I am with him all day as opposed to when i am at work and miss approx 3 feeds?

I was thinking about expressing at work roughly around the time when I would be feeding and then using this milk for when he has a bottle on the other days.

However, there will be days when I won't have any milk ready pumped and will have to do so a day or 2 before work in preparation....will I have enough to feed him and pump as well?

Hope that all makes sense!?

I returned to work when my son was 8 1/2 months. I only needed to express once in the day as I was with him for all other feeds.
I did before returning get a small freezer stash 20oz or so.
Worked three days so I would defrost milk from stash for 1 st day. Then the milk I expressed at work went towards the next days feed. I would take the expressed milk in a cool bag with ice block and freeze it if it was not going to be used the next day.

Hope that helps

I have been expressing 3oz each morning when I have most milk - I feed from one side (fullest) and then express from the other, usually get 3oz and then feed him from the 2nd side after expressing. I combine two days worth to make one 6oz bottle. I seem to have enough, I guess he just feeds for longer at 10am then he might do otherwise.

So yes might be worth building up small stash unless you don't mind him having some formula?

I am doing a few days at work when he is 3 months old so am expressing enough in advance, any I pump off at work will be a bonus. So far have 4 x 6oz bottles, aiming to have freezer stash of 6-8 feeds.

I second getting into a routine of expressing each morning while you feed on the other side. You will get so much more milk, the double stimulation will help you get a great letdown and the routine will build your supply.

Then perhaps pump once at work each day.

When at home, you could do another one-sided pumping session during an afternoon feed, if you wanted, but it won't really be necessary I think.

Soon you will be building up a good stash.
