Formula feeding

I am bottle feeding using Tommy Tippee bottles and SMA formula. Bottles have a guide showing you the amount in ml and fl oz. I am feeding my baby 5 oz and accordingto the bottle this is about 140 ml, but the SMA tin says to fill bottle to 150ml and to use 5 scoops. I am filling the bottle up to 150ml, which is just over 5 fl oz, but when the formula is added the amount in the bottle is increasing to 170ml which is about 6oz.

I'm confused, does this mean i'm actually feeding my baby 5oz or 6oz?

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction to get this cleared up for me?

Thanks

Hmm, not exactly sure but I would imagine it's the larger amount,ie the total amount of made up formula.

Sorry, meant to say I would ask the HV if you're not sure.

Go with the formula instuctions and fill the bottle first with the recommended mls of water, before adding the formula milk.

The bottle is fuller when you've added the formula and mixed it with the water.

I chose Avent bottles because they're much more specific in mls.

It sounds like you're doing it right though...

you fill the bottle with the amount of water shown on the tin and then add the scoops of powder. The amount of milk you end up with is always more than the recommended amount of feed. You are doing it right.

BTW I found SMA did not suit my baby. Aptamil is better IMHO
