Reflux (Again!)

Posted recently about reflux in babies, my HV and GP do indeed think that is what is wrong with my baby, and she has had gaviscon for the last 2 weeks. Not totally convinced it is helping, her sickness seems to come and go, although I do think she is happier. We are back to Docs on Thursday for a review....

Question is....I want to stop breastfeeding. Flame me now. I am fed up. I have exclusivly expressed for 18 weeks (baby was 6 weeks early and wouldn't take to the breast). Finally at about 14 weeks she got the hang of breast feeding, then she gest put on gaviscon which she won't take unless its in a bottle. I am fed up of expressing, the time it takes, but mostly the worry that I will suddenly not be able to produce the amounts she needs (freezer stash is already being used up, sometimes just can't get enough).

Just want someone to:
A) Tell me i'm not being selfish and that its okay to stop
B) Recommend a good formula for refluxy babies

Thank You!!!

Not much difference in Gaby so far with dairy free diet. I feel better tho, is that possible or just my imagination? Feel much less tired and less sluggish? Been feeling so exhausted since she was born dispite her sleeping so well. Prob just my imagination.

Shocks for today though, Salt and Vinegar Pringles have dairy, sour cream and onion do not?! and hot dogs contain milk?! Why?!

Good thing is that she is def no worse for not taking the gaviscon, which is great, she has had two poos since we stopped it and think she is much more comfortable.

Well, she woke up at 6.30 this morning, i gave her a bottle of emb, she took 50mls and started SCREAMING, proper tears rolling down her cheeks and everything No idea what caused it, but i continued for a full half hour before she finally settled and took the rest of her bottle. She then fell fast asleep while i was expressing and is still asleep now. Only brought up a mouthful of milk and lots of wind so I guess that is good. Just wish she was a bit more cheerful!!

While I was dealing with her the daft dog pulled the bag of pegs off the line and has scattered them all over the garden. Fun. At least the sun is shining!

baby asleep, dog asleep, oh asleep - bliss

still going ahead with the dairy free, think i am really starting to notice a difference now also moved back to the slow flow teats which I think is making a difference, although bottles now takes ages! But very little coming up! Also moved DD into her own room for nights as we tended to wake her going to bed and then when OH gets up at 2am (!) he woke her again. Seems happy there, still sleeping 12 hours.

No further forward with the breastfeeding, think me and my pump are destined to be friends for a wee while yet!

All going good here...i thought!

Gaby has been much happier, more smiley and generally crying less. And being MUCH less sick.

However, just had her weekly weigh in and she has only put on 20g. HV not happy, time to try formula she thinks.

Ideas?

thanks so much for your support! - you are fab!

Yes, she has plenty of wet nappy's and poos every second day. So no worries there.

Was telling OH about our visit and he looked at Gaby kicking away laughing to herself and looked at me as if i was stupid and said 'your not seriously worried about her, even i know she is fine! hv is a twit' (or words to that effect!)

And he is right, we know our baby and know that whether she is putting on loads of weight or not, she is happy! Sure the weight will follow, she is now draining 8oz bottles with ease, and the difference her (and me, and the carpet, sofa and dog) not being covered in sick is huge!

Well....

Gaby put on 8oz this week! Yay! Very pleased about that!

HV was out at the house today to weigh her and talk to me about weaning. She reckons that Gaby should be starting with soups and fruit now...she gave us a list of things to introduce now and a list to start when she is 6 months...

really don't think I want to be giving her anything other than milk just now, I know she is 20 weeks but that is only 14 weeks really and she is showing none of the signs. Still sleeping through, not increasing milk volumes, only just this week has started putting her hand in her mouth and isn't reaching out for things yet. HV was pretty insistant that we need to get started

But other than that all good, can't remember the last time Gaby was sick and am now brave enough to feed her without wrapping ourselves in towels!

Thank you so much for suggesting the dairy free and helping us through this!!
