BF and chicken pox

Half of DD's nursery class have come down with chicken pox which means that I fully expect her to join them in the next couple of weeks, sooner if her current behaviour is anything to go by. However DS2 is only 11 weeks so how likely is he to catch it from her. He has about 9 bf's and 2 bottles a day and I could really do without a baby with chicken pox. Am assuming that as DS1 had a nasty dose at 2.5 he'll be immune won't he?

DS1 should be immune. DS2 will get some benefit to his immune system from the breastfeeding -- it doesn't mean he won't catch it, but his chances are improved and if he does catch it it should be less severe.

Your DD won't necessarily catch it, mind -- DS consistently refused to catch it when it went round at nursery and only got it in Reception from what I can only assume was a passing encounter with someone (as there didn't seem to be any other cases at school or amon his friends).

My nearly 3 year old got it a few weeks ago, and just under 2 weeks after her first spot appeared, her 4 month old EBF baby brother got it too. Poor little mite has been completely miserable and quite poorly with it.

Gah.

Wish you better luck than we've had.

My 2.9 year old DS came down with this last Thursday as have about half his nursery it seems. Am still ebfing his 5mo sister and really hoping she has escaped this time. She has had a few random spots but they never come to anything.
