I tend to be able to express about 120 mls of milk a day when I express twice a day(once after morning feed and then at 11 pm) so I give DD that at midnight. However I am wondering if anyone thinks this is not enough. She is 14 weeks(4 early so adjusted age 10 weeks)and she has been sleeping til 7am on this however until this week this bottle was like a dream feed and now she seems to get a bit cranky after the feed and takes a while to go down after it. Do you think that as she gets bigger she needs more milk so I should top up with formula. UNfortunately I have not breast fed her at night for a month now so I think my supply at this time has gone right down. Shall I just persevere with the 120 as she does sleep eventually I just don't want her to be under fed(Although she put on 10 oz in one week last week...great reassurance for a Bf mum of a premature baby)

There's no reason why you can't just put her back to the breast - you WILL produce the milk she needs (especially as you say you've been pumping at 11pm anyway - this will have been stimulating your supply.)

Just put her on the breast more, if you have been pumping at 11pm you'll have milk then anyway.

IME a breastfed baby will take more from the breast than a bottle as its more comforting, esp in the night and the baby is better at extracting milk than a breastpump.

Cheers for feedback.

I decided to give a bottle at night as she tends to feed for nearly an hour and she can drink a bottle in about 10-15 minutes so she normally(until recently) never wakes up properly and it is easy to get her back to sleep. Interestingly enough I gave her a feed after writing that thread last night and she was fine and just went straight back to sleep. Maybe she was just having a few fussy days..who knows :-)
