FF 8 week old small and frequent feeds

Really hoping for some advice (or reassurance...) Ds 8 wks is a fairly unenthusiastic feeder and only very occasionally takes a max of 4oz in 2+ attempts with burp breaks and nappy changes to try to keep him awake. Looks for more 2 hours later and is difficult to stretch even with dummy, wheeling, singing, cuddles etc. I realise many will ask why we would want to stretch him but I don't see how he'll increase intake without encouragement. Both (very helpful) GP and HV agree that although weight gain is not a problem he should be increasing the size of his bottles but he's not interested. DD fed like a demon and slept through from 8 wks so this is a totally new quandry for us. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

is he particularly gassy? i know with DD (7 weeks) she can sometimes refuse to finish a feed because her little tummy gets full of gas and feels full. i found mixing dentinox into her formula helped reduce the problem. i also changed her to a faster flowing teat (avent 2) so she sucked in less air. hth.

DS1 went from BF to FF around 15 weeks - he only ever took a couple of oz at each feed. I used to throw so much formula away. His weight was always fine too. He had reflux so little and often was perhaps better.

Why are they so bothered about time between feeds?? No-one ever seemed concerned about DS and he was twice as old as your little one.

Thank you so much for replies... GP comments were probably in response to my concern that guidelines suggest feeds every 3-4 hrs and 5-6oz bottles. Interesting that you mention wind and reflux- we are now using gaviscon for silent reflux although I don't think it is very severe as thankfully we don't suffer with vomit or excessive cryingand I bought infacol today. We've messed about so much with teats!! Tommee Tippee 3 seems to get a bigger feed in but it's for much older babies and I feel that the feed is quite frantic in pace where it should be a little more comforting. DH isn't a big one for comfort(!) and thinks we should concentrate on quantity not quality. Maybe I shouldn't be forcing the issue at all and leave DS to find his level but it's hard with full on toddler vying for attention when you're trying to feed every couple of hours. Sick of saying "In a minute- Alex needs to drink up/ wind/ wake up... "etc etc

I was always amazed DS1 ever put weight on with his useless amounts of formula and sick.

They do somehow seem to muddle their way through... bit like me (on a good day). I guess I just need to remember that it won't be like this for ever and I'll turn round one day and he'll be drinking pints.
