Breastfeeding during pregnancy advice

DD is almost 10 months and I am about 7 weeks pregnant.

DD breastfeeds three times a day. I really want to continue bf'ing throughout the pregnancy and carry on until DD is 2.

Is this possible? GP has advised against this as he believes there wont be enough milk (I think at the moment there's plenty, DD doesnt seem to complain!). My mum and a couple of my aunts are also of the belief that my milk is no longer 'good enough' for her. Is this true?

What are your experiences of breastfeeding during pregnancy? I cant help but feel a little guilty at times thinking that DD isnt getting milk that is nutritious enough for her.

Hi,
Good for you! I breastfed throughout my second pregnancy, although my DS was 2 years at the time so a bit older than yours . Be prepared for feeling uncomfortable with it during these beginning months, I kept getting irrationally angry, I guess due to hormones, but this stopped after about 4 months. I thought my supply did decrease, but he kept wanting to feed just as much, so maybe I was oversensitive.

There's lots of advice about feeding in pregnancy at La Leche League here and give them a call if you want to talk it over with someone, they're really helpful and knowledgeable.

Hope you can carry on, good luck.

Thanks Earhart, I do hope I can continue. Thanks for that website, it looks really useful, will give it a good read through.

I know what you mean about being angry, I'm constantly snapping at DH at the moment (thankfully he understands, been through it all during 1st pregnancy, seems to be worse this time round though!).

congratulations on your pregnancy
I fed through my 2nd pregnancy and then fed both children for a good while. I found the whole experience trouble free and the weight fell off afterwards

I certainly was not ready to wean, and it was a lovely experience to carry on feeding. Your body is very clever and will produce plenty of milk, although my breasts did pack up for a bit dd carried on regardless and they started again...
best of luck
