Violent feeder..?

DS has recently become increasingly rough whilst feeding. Not just to me - that I can put up with! - but to himself. Whilst he is feeding, he pinches, scratches and hits himself What's worse is his favourite place to pinch is his throat, and he has actually given himself a bruise.

I have tried giving him something else to hold on to, but he won't feed. It looks terrible, a six month old with a bruise on his throat. Any suggestions greatly appreciated - am really not enjoying BFing at the moment.

No suggestions but will watch . DS scratches his face while feeding and made his cheek bleed yesterday. He also kicks me and turns away from the brest while keeping the nipple in his mouth (ouch!). If anyone can teach him manners it would be very helpful!

DS has cut the inside of his ear as well - he grabs and pulls that when he's tired. The turning with nipple stopped after a few times of being taken off and being told a very firm No.

I found that if I didn't pay attention to baby whilst feeding the pinching/biting would get worse. I did get a rainbow nursing necklace but rather than wearing it myself I give it to baby to play with. Obviously it gets a bit boring staring at them for a whole feed so I alternate reading/computer with with looking at baby and stroking back/face/hands.
