Night weaning using Dr Jay Gordon's method - anyone want to join me?

I have seen lots of people on here recommend this way of night weaning by Jay Gordon and think it's time for me to give it a go. My dd is 19 months and still wakes for a comfort feed once/twice/six times a night.

Just wondered if anyone else is thinking of doing this and want to start it together? I am going for phase 1 this weekend.

Hey chocolate moose,
I'm surprised someone was surprised at you saying you feed an 11 month old tbh.

One of my acquaintances did say "I wouldn't even think of feeding my ds if he woke up at night" (at about 18months old) and I had to reply "Well, if he just screamed and screamed until you fed him then you might!"

Just wanted to do a quick update...we have had no milk in the night for a week now.

Hi - I have just read the whole thread as I am trying to reduce night feeds for my 18 months old. Can I ask, once your LO stopped having milk in the night, did they still wake in the night or did they start sleeping through? Because I don't think I can go through the screaming if it's not going to lead to sleeping through.
Thanks

I can see these posts are pretty old now, but I have just started this approach and am night 3 tonight. Has been easy so far with 18 month old ds detaching himself after short feed but I know the hard no milk bit is l

How bizarre - I had been looking at this thread yesterday when I googled Jay Gordon stuff, and lo and behold it appears in the current list the next day!

I'm not actually doing this yet, but have been thinking about trying it as DS (13mo) is currently waking a minimum of 3 times a night, and lately it's been more like 6. I'm not quite sure how to go about following this plan, as he tends to short feed anyway and unlatch himself before rolling over to go back to sleep. I suspect we might have to go straight for step 2 which could be interesting! I'm thinking of having DP sleep next to DS (he's in his cot with a side off up against our bed) and doing the comforting. Not that DP is overly excited at the prospect ;)

Be very interested to hear of your progress!

For everyone who gets the "if we did not bf we would not have this problem", I weaned DC onto a bottle of milk at night from bf at about 12 months, and some bf still (I have low supply). DC wakes 1 to -I lose count- number of times a night. We co-sleep with side carred cot.

Yeah so not bf did not stop DC from waking. Also does not feed to sleep, but with a cuddle usually, so in theory I am half way there. Oh, and DC is nearly 2 Smile and I am tired! Smile

PS but DC does sleep through (8 or 9 til 6.30-7) about once a month. So I am always on my toes, thinking, this could be the night! :) I think night waking is normal with responded to babies xx
