I've been exclusively bf my dd for 8 weeks. last night she slept for her longest stretch so far - 6 hours - and although she's been feeding fine today, one breast has suddenly gone all lumpy and hard.

What do i do?? I've been feeding her more on that side since i noticed, but don't want to neglect the other side. Should i express too or will that just make me produce more milk and make the problem worse?

help!!

Great news on the sleep! I would just keep feeding regularly from both sides and it should settle down. I found that it helped to massage any lumpy bits whilst feeding to help clear blockages. Watch out for any red patches on your breasts or flu-like symptoms as these can be signs of mastitis, which is not nice...

Just to add to RhinestoneCowgirl's suggestion, I jump in a hot bath (or a hot shower will do) and run my hands firmly down from under my armpits to the nipple, then repeating all around the breast - especially over the lumpy bits. You can even support the opposite side of the breast to really give you something to press against. It doesn't mess with my milk supply and provides some serious relief!
I then continue massaging the lumpy bits down towards the nipple when feeding.
Nothing like a case of torpedo boob to really make breastfeeding even more fun!
