Is this normal for a 3 week old?

DD is 3 weeks, weighed 8lb 6oz at birth, lost 6oz of her birth weight but had shot up to 8lb 12oz by 1 week.

She feeds so quickly, feeds rarely last more than 5-10 minutes but she's still happy to go roughly 2-3 hours between feeds during the day and about 5 hours during the night. It seems to be working for her, she's gaining weight fine but I'm worried, with my other 2 I remember feeding for hours and hours.

Just sounds like she's just a very efficient feeder who has a lovely latch and attach technique. Good for you - you're doing really well. Don't knock it - she'll be having a growth spurt soon and wanting to up your supply with more frequent and prolonged feeding .

Both DS (23 months) and DD (10 weeks) have never fed for very long. DD feeds longer when lying down and in the evening in her cluster feeding moments, but a lot of it appears to be comfort suckling.

Enjoy, I love it because it means I can entertain DS with a cake in a coffee shop while I feed her and then chat with him while I drink my tea, rather than feed for hours

Thanks both, feel much better.

It's been a much better experience than with my other two and I'm enjoying it much more, thought I'd better check I wasn't about to mess it all up!
