Baby refusing one breast

Has anyone had experience of this? Over the last few days, my 8wk DS has started refusing to feed from my right breast. Bfing has been a struggle from Day 1, and right when it felt like it was getting better, this starts. I'm trying to start him off on that breast when he's most hungry in the hope that he'll feed better, but any other advice? Should I be expressing from that side to keep my supply up?

Try fooling him into thinking he is on the left. If you hold him so he is lying on his left tucked up under your arm a bit like a rugby ball. Pillows may be needed to help support him.

A friend had this problem, got this advise, and all was hunky dorey. Not to say breastfeeding isn't hard for both Mummy and Baby, it can be a struggle on and off for as long as you wish to do it.

Don't really know about expressing, but if it's going on for a while maybe you should.

I had that at the beginning. It seems the left breast produces more milk and it flows faster, but I also used the rugby tackle to feed my baby and it worked. And try to put your baby on that breast as often as possible.

I did what fuzzybunny suggested and it worked for us. DS2 still loves the left breast more but now will happily feed from the right like he used to. You could try breast compression on the right side to try and speed things up a bit?

Ring the NCT breastfeeding helpline. This happened to me - not one feed from the left in 3 weeks, despite midwives and health visitors trying to get her to latch. Sometimes she would latch then just stare at me rather than feed. I expressed to keep the flow going. The breast feeding advisor asked me lots of questions about DD's behaviour during feeds and we got it sorted. She's now not bothered which side I feed her from.
