Stressed ! ........... baby refuses bottle

Just had another hysterical screaming fit with dd 3 months - she will not givein and goes purple with anger!. Breastfed from birth, soon have to go back to work and trying ti get her on bottle.

Tried different teats, breast milk, formula ( 3 types) and am at wits end and presently in tears for fourth time today.

She is very demanding breastfeeder anyway - can feed sometimes every hour or so! But will not take bottle from me or anyone else which also means that currently I don't have a life!

Help!!!!! Please

Wanted to start this early as heard it might take time!

Would she take it from a sterilised beaker?
That way she can lap it up (you might need to wrap her well to prevent getting soaked)and it negates the need for a teat initially.

Not being funny, but what temp are you giving the bottle to her at?

Even babies bottle fed from birth will raise a fuss at temp variations.

I would suggest the MAM ULTIvent teat as it is soft and textured like the nipple.It fits into most wide neck bottles like boots, avent.

Try warm boiled water rather than milk next time, she may drink some so at least fluids going in and a good association link.

Can you slip the teat in while she is dozing when you know she is hungry?

I know it will be hard but keep calm as she gets upset you no doubt tense up and because you feel different to her she gets more upset and so it goes on.

I'm afraid I had to starve my guy into it! I refused to bf him for 2 feeds and he eventually took it! I also gave it to him facing away from me and touching his face with my fingers. Agree about the MAM ultivent teat, it was the only one he took after refusing all others. Having said that he still doesn't LIKE the bottle and now that he is on solids will only take it under duress!

Had the same trouble with DD2 at about four months.

As OOps says, it is probably best for someone else to give her the bottle and persevere. I went shoe-shopping with DD1 for about 2 1/2 hours and Dh was at his wits end but we were joyous when she took 2 oz (I am suddenly remembering those days when achievement was measured in oz drunk.......) at the third attempt she succumbed completely

She WAS very picky with the teats and I found that NUK was the one she liked. She was generally quite 'cross' for the first 5 months and cried at childminder. granny and all the lovely people around her. A switch flicked at that age and she became an obliging ray of sunshine.

I know there is NO connection, but as it happens , DD1 was easy to put on the bottle and a nightmare to potty train, DD2 was the other way round.
