My dd2 is now 7 weeks old and has very bad colic. Doesn't settle very well at all between feeds in the day but sleeps during the night, she is gaining between 4.5 - 6 oz each week which I think is normal. The problem I am having is that every 3 or 4 days when she needs a poo she becomes really fraught. The day when she wants to do a poo she doesn't feed well on the breast, often bringing up a lot of her feed and in the nappies before she poos I get little spots of poo till she finally does an almighty korma explosive poo which fills all of her nappy! I know it can be quite normal not to go very often but i am just worried that she is so fraught before a poo my dd1 wasn't like this. Can anyone shed any light?

My friend baby was like this and she found those bucket baths helped. Are they called tummy tubs? Anyway, the combination of the warm water and having the legs pulled up in opptimum bowel emptying position really helped. Also I believe a drink of warm sugar water can help bring on the poo.
Poor love will grow out of it soon I'm sure.
Weight gain is fine. Carry on with all you're doing.

My daughter does this and I hold her in position described above but over a potty. She explodes into it with relief- she just hates going in her nappy, and the legs up position triggers it all off! If we're out and I can't use the potty she does the little spots of poo thing.
