Engorgement

Dear All,

Had my second baby 5 days ago, and my milk is in and flooding flowing! DS is feeding like a monster, but, being so tiny still, my DS can not keep pace and the engorgement is absolute bloody agony a little uncomfortable.

I don't want to start expressing at this stage to relieve it, as I had oversupply problems last time from expressing early, so prefer to leave it if possible, just taking occasional paracetamol to ease it, and trying to get him to feed as often as possible.

I can't remember from last time how long this takes to settle down (it was 5 years ago). Any advice from those who have been through it more recently? Thanks.

Ouch, I had this recently when I stopped bf a bit too abruptly!

At the beginning I think I suffered from engorgement and lumps for the first 3-4 weeks - sitting in the bath with warm flannels helped to melt away the blocked ducts and expressing just a bit off (but not too much so as too worsen the problem) eased it.

Thanks. Ben having warm baths anyway to soothe other anatomical regions, so will continue with that.

I've dug my old pump out but will keep gritting my teeth another day or so before doing it unless it gets truly unbearable.
