Is there something I can put on my bitten nipple to encourage it to heal?

we're not quite ready to give up bf yet but DD2, nearly 9mo, has bitten my nipple and I daren't drop the feed which would allow it to heal, in case my supply totally goes (IMO,it's on the brink at the moment...)
The 'cut' is like a smile all around the bottom half of the nipple where it joins the breast, it is slightly weepy today. have washed it with saline but not sure if there is something i can put on it to help it heal.

can anyone help, or is it time to stop?

I would put a thick layer of Lansinoh on the cut then you can get something called jelnet (sp?) from the chemist to put over it then breastpad. The jelnet and lansinoh will keep it moist and it will heal faster. Just remember to take off the jelnet and wipe your nipple clean before feeding off that side.

agree with oops - moist healing is the way to go

thank you. I definitely have some jelnet (i think i used it on a scald, does that sound like the stuff?) unfortunately, i no longer have lansinoh - i have 8 hour cream - would that do the trick or do you think it would sting?

If not, i could get my friend to drop by the bf cafe and ask for a couple of lansinoh samples for me, i guess?

eight hour or vaseline and jelnet (yes same stuff as for burns) should work but may sting. Just be sure to clean it off well before feeds.

thanks. have just tried 8hour cream and it feels ok. noticed it had bled onto my bra yesterday so obviously needs sorting.
thanks, hopefully i can keep up the feeding now.

Hope it heals soon. I've been bitten a few times recently and it really hurts so you have my sympathies!

Or you could just feed on the good side and express on the bad side for a week - I did that (with a much younger baby) and it's a bore but it does work - plus lots of Lansinoh.
