sterilising questions (newbie)

Hi all

May be impossibly obviously stupid questions but I am too tired to worry about looking like an ass.

If I sterilise in a steriliser, then take one item out of the sterlisier and close the lid again, does the rest stay sterilised or do I have to run the cycle again?

How about if you take stiuff out the steriliser and keep it in like an airtight container?

How else can I keep sterilised stuff clean so I don't have to re-sterilise in middle of nigbht?

thanks v much]

Not sure exactly on how long things stay sterile when out of the sterilizer but I had an Avent sterilizer that repeated the cycle automatically every 6 hours.

I wouldn't worry when you take something out, so long as you remember to put the lid back on again straight away.

hopefully some other people will have some additional ideas!!!

I often used to wonder about this and was a serial steriliser.

I came onto Mumsnet only to find out that a lot of parents didn't worry quite so much about sterilising

I am sure that taking something out would mean the rest is still fine.

if you are using breastmilk you don't have to sterilise anything

lots of people don't sterilise anything - hot, soapy water and air drying is fine as is the top rack of the dishwasher

as soon as you touch anything with your hands or tongs it isn't sterile anyway

I think my microwave steriliser stays sterile for 4 hours if you don't open it. I wouldn't worry to much.

thanks all. will try to chill out a bit! also have ordered some microwave steriliser bags.
