ds2 was born 34+1 all well in neo natal for 10 days and tube fed expressed milk until fully bf at 34+6 all going rreally well. born 4lb12, dropped to 4lb5 and now he's 5 weeks old (39 weeks) and is 5lb6 i was told to wake him every3 hours at first then every 4,he usually wakes for the feeds himself but i was wondering if anyone knows if its ok to leave him for longer at night. i totally dont mind waking him but he really gets day/night and settles really well - any thoughts or experiences of what to expect would be great

Hmm my ds was born at 34+6. Once I felt confident that he was getting enough (following a line, lots of heavy wet nappies, alert when a wake, content after feeds) I stopped waking him at night.

He still woke for feeds, sometimes every 3-4 hours, sometimes every 5.

It would be very unusual for a newborn, especially a prem one to sleep more than this.

Congratulations on his birth, you are doing a wonderful and amazing job. It isn't easy!

thanks, that really helps. he is as you say just starting to be really alert during awake times (which are rare) lots of nappies, v content. he did a 5 then 4 hour stint of sleep last night (which is amazing compared to what ds1 used to be like - feeding every 40 mins!) but then i was racked with guilt thinking should i have woken him more, thanks for the kind words too x
