Tips for giving up BF?

Naetha · 26/04/2010 20:32

Hi there, DD is 5 months and recently has completely gone off BF and is much keener on bottles. When she BFs now unless it's at night (i.e. she's half asleep) she bites and tugs at my nipples, so tbh I'm quite happy with the situation. I never expected BF to work with her, so I'm amazed I got to 5 months.

Any tips for cutting out the BF then? Should I go cold turkey? Keep the night feeds BF rather than FF? She doesn't co-sleep, so it's not a massive inconvenience to FF rather than BF in the night.

How can I minimise discomfort?

All tips gratefully accepted

At the moment I'm just lengthening the time between BFs - I wait until my boobs get engorged, then feed. It's about twice a day now, and I'm guessing will lessen as time geos on.

no to cold turkey

you can reduce the time of each feed by a minute every other day and you will have dropped them in a week or so

this is a gentle way and gives your supply time to adjust

i am doing this at the moment with night feeds and it is fine IME

Drop one feed at a time, i think the advice is one feed a week but i found one feed dropped every three or four days.

The engorging was part of giving up I'm afraid. I stopped at 5 months ish with my first two...terrible advice from a GP both times....but even when I fed dcs 3 & 4 until 12/13 months it was the same.

Perhaps ruby's advice is better than mine....sorry.
