how long before periods return?

I stopped breastfeeding about 2 months ago, before that I was feeding DS probably twice a day so expected them to have returned by now. I had a copper coil put in so am a bit nervous aboutthem coming back!
Does it often take this long for them to restart? thanks

My ds was 2 when mine returned, but I was still giving him comfort feeds.

jaggythistle · 22/04/2010 15:52

Coincidentallly I seem to have got one yesterday.

DS is only 7 months old and has been ebf apart from some solids for the last month.

Wasn't expecting it so soon!

mistressploppy · 22/04/2010 15:55

My sister's ebf ds was only about 6wks when hers came back! No sign of mine yet and ds is 6mo, only just started solids

doughnutty · 22/04/2010 16:09

DS was 19 weeks. I stopped BF at 3 weeks. OH MY GOD how heavy and painful was it??!!
Have some paracetamol and ibuprofen handy. It felt like my first twinges going into labour but it lasted for two days.

I had been struggling to conceive when I fell pg and had only had about 10 periods in the previous 2 years. Think my body is getting it's own back as I now have my 2nd visit from Auntie Flo and it's as bad as the last and only 3 weeks since!!

lal123 · 23/04/2010 11:28

with both dds mine came back when they were about 3 months old - despite ebf!

Morloth · 23/04/2010 12:10

grrr mine started yesterday - DS is 4 weeks! Fully BF.

I knew it was coming though, had all my lead in signs.

mistressploppy · 23/04/2010 12:16

I wonder why it varies so much from person to person...

AngelaCarleen · 23/04/2010 17:19

DH and I were just talking about this, DD is 12 weeks and I haven't had one, yet...

We were saying that not only is breastfeeding saving us a fortune in formula, but also in chocolate, paracetamol and 'ladies things'

I had a couple of days of bleeding at about 5 weeks, then same again at 7 weeks, thought it might be a bit of left-over lochia at first, then proper full-on heavier than pre-baby period at 10 weeks. Drat. Am also ebf-ing. My doc said its not unusual but not abnormal. Bloody annoying though - was looking forward to another period-free few months.

ComeAgain · 23/04/2010 18:18

I meant to say it is "unusual but not abnormal"

lukewarmcupoftea · 23/04/2010 20:33

I didn't have a period between DD1 and DD2! Was still expressing to feed, had just wound it down when DD1 was 12 months and literally a few days later... oops.

Was still BF DD2 at 10 months when they came back - just after she stopped having night feeds, maybe that makes a difference. Have now had 2 in 2 weeks. No idea at all what's going on, but it seems to be a bit more painful than before (if I can remember back 3 years or more...).

Wierd how it differs so much.

RockSteady · 24/04/2010 09:35

oh thanks everyone, it is really weird how much it varies. I did a pg test which was negative (hooray!) so just waiting now . I should just count myself lucky that I've gone so long without one, just hope it doesn't come back with a vengeance!
