3oz weight gain at 3 weeks

My DS was born at 38+2, I don't know what he lost as he wasn't weighed until 10 days when he was back to birth weight and 11 days later he has only gained 3oz. It's the first time I've EBF and am now concerned that he's gaining too slowly and that I may be doing something wrong. He's eating 2-3 hourly in the day with cluster feeds from about 5-9pm, he has 3oz of EBM at 11pm and then 2 feeds in the night, I never let him go more than 3 hours. He has about 4-5 dirty nappies a day which only turned yellow about 3 days ago, they were a bit browny before then and lots of wet nappies. I've been to a BF group run by the BFN today and they thought he was latching and feeding well. He's generally settled and happy and seems alert when he's awake.

This is all new to me as my #1 was FF from a week and gained lb a week and my DD was mixed fed.

If the BfN supporters thought the latch was ok and you are getting all the wees and poos then it sounds like you are probably doing fine. I don't think anyone on this board will be able to tell you that or not, though.
If it were me, I would say that at least it is going up, which is the most important thing. I would keep an eye on it and keep offering the breast frequently. Give it another fortnight to show a significant difference and then go for another weigh.

A couple of things that come to my mind are was the weighing done on the same scales? Do you know if you had just fed first time? A feed could add 4oz in itself, and if he had just weed then that could have made the second weigh less.

I might also go along to another group to get someone else to check the latch and also to get some extra moral support as it is so easy for our confidence to have a bit of a wobble at this stage.

Mine was similar in that he came at 38 weeks and put on very little weight (max 3 oz a week, sometimes only 1 oz) for the first 3 weeks. We then made a concerted effort to get more into him - offering both barrels each time (somehow I'd assumed he would only need one) which really paid off - he put on 10 oz that week, and has averaged 8 oz each week since - he's now 7 weeks.
Not sure if that helps you, just wanted to reassure you that you're not alone, it probably won't last, and maybe try both breasts each feed if you don't already... Good luck!

Just thought I would update this thread and let you know that Ds had his Tongue tie snipped last Thursday and has gained 10oz in a week. To say I am pleased and relieved is an understatement!
