Relactation/ establishing bf after a break

My ds is 5 weeks old and I stopped breastfeeding when he was 10 days as I wasn't able to get him to latch on. I've noticed this morning that I've started leaking milk again and am starting to wonder if it would be worth trying again with breastfeeding.

I've felt really guilty about giving up bf and it's making it difficult for me to meet up with the mums in my NCT class as I am the only bottle-feeder. I really wanted to feed him myself but he lost so much weight that in the end my main concern was keeping him healthy. I (and dh) also found it really hard to deal with him crying all the time because he was hungry and not feeding.

Does anyone have any experience of re-establishing breastfeeding at this stage or is it just wishful thinking?

i would say, although i'm not an expert, that if there is milk, you stand a good chance of relactating! i imagine you would have to feed him alot to increase your supply to match his needs, and gradually phase out the formula. you may not be able to establish a full supply at this stage but again, i really don't know that for sure! have you tried latching him on? i would suggest real life advice from a reputable breastfeeding consultant and some research into it, but i am sure it can be done!

Hi! I am in the process of relactating! My DD is almost 5 weeks, i stopped Bfing at 5 days. I started trying to relactate a week ago, and have gone from a few drops to half an ounce which doesnt sound much but it's working!!! I am pumping every 3/4 hours, taking fenugreek, pumping at least once in the night, and putting her to feed from me first before a feed. \Good luck!!

Grab a breast pump! Pump perhaps every 2 hours and latch him on as much as possible too. Best of luck x
